About This Project

Civil Society & Memory is the companion website for the academic book of the same name, exploring how civil society organisations shape the remembrance of traumatic pasts in postwar Germany. The website was created to support the book's launch, broaden its reach beyond traditional academic channels, and serve as an ongoing scholarly resource for students and researchers.

The design takes a typographically driven, minimal approach — the gravity of the subject matter demanded a design language that communicates seriousness and intellectual rigour, while remaining accessible to a wide academic audience. The layout was structured to provide clear pathways to book information, author biography, and supplementary research materials.

A bespoke logo and visual identity was created alongside the website, giving the project a recognisable brand presence across print and digital contexts. The identity draws on the themes of memory and history through subtle visual references, while remaining clean and professional.
